Using every last inch of space! |
On Tuesday I finally started my trip, which began with a long day of flying. I departed Columbus at 1:50 in the afternoon, stopped in Charlotte and Fort Lauderdale, and eventually arrived in Nassau around 9:30 at night. Other than sitting on the runway in Charlotte for about an hour, the flights went well. I went through customs quickly and received both of my checked in bags with no problems – so far, so good.

I then took a taxi to my hotel (the Atlantis), which was pretty much on the opposite side of the island. The ride wasn’t cheap – it cost me $30! (I asked at customs and they told me that was how much it would cost – the shuttle service provided by the hotel cost $35). After I checked in, I took a walk around the hotel complex and then went to sleep.
Today (Wednesday), I sat on the beach for awhile and read a book that I had brought. Later I will go for a run on the beach and then find a place to eat. Another guy from Semester at Sea is supposed to arrive today, and I will be sharing the room with him for the next two nights. Right now I’m enjoying the hotel, but I also can’t wait to start on Friday.
