Telework in Japan

I last updated the blog on August 29, the day before I flew to Japan to start a one year position in Tokyo. It's already the end of March, which means unfortunately I haven't kept up with the blog. On the other hand, I just started telework / remote work three days a week, which means I have extra time around the house--a good opportunity to get back to blogging.

Now you may be thinking, remote work still means I'll be working...well, yes and no. I am an intern at a Japanese company, so I don't exactly have a ton of responsibility (I do get paid at least). I plan to do a separate post on my day to day at the office, but suffice it to say that I'm not pulling the infamous late night office sessions that the Japanese salarymen are famous for.

I do help out with any specific research projects or assignments my coworkers can dish out, but when I'm working from home, not many emails are coming my way. Also, those coworkers have more pressing concerns, such as the impact of the coronavirus on our bottom line.

So, I figured that over the next few weeks I'll post a series of updates on my life here in Tokyo, including details about my job, my apartment, what I do in my free time, and my family's visit over Christmas. Also, to keep it topical, I will review my experience here in Japan during the virus outbreak.

If you are interested to hear about these experiences please check up on the blog for new posts. I haven't touched base in over 6 months, so I have a lot of updating to do!
